We’ve got huge news – rugby field-sized, you could say!
Without further ado, Hnry is beyond excited to announce that we are the naming rights sponsor for Wellington Regional Stadium. As of 1st March 2026, it’ll officially become known as “Hnry Stadium” (!!!).
We’ve struck up a five-year partnership agreement with the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust, allowing us to champion an incredible venue and back the city we call home. Honestly, we can barely believe it ourselves – the Cake Tin is iconic.
But, we do appreciate that this is all a bit left-field (mind the pun). You probably have some questions – like, for example, what? Why? And what happens next?
All totally fair! When you think “tax”, your next thought wouldn’t usually be “stadium”. But the more we considered all the bits and pieces that make up this partnership, the more it made sense to us. It’s a really cool way for us to help rep the city that’s such a big part of our own story.

We didn’t buy a stadium
Just so we’re all on the same page, we didn’t buy Wellington Regional Stadium!
Instead, we’ve become the naming rights sponsor for the next five years. From 1st March 2026 onwards, you’ll officially be able to attend matches and events at the Hnry Stadium 🎉
Although our name will be on the side of the building, it’ll still be owned and operated by the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust, as per usual. Don’t worry – you won’t see any tax-themed half-time shows there anytime soon (probably!).
Wellington Regional Stadium Trust recently celebrated 25 years of operating and maintaining the Stadium, and CEO Warrick Dent is excited to welcome Hnry as the naming rights sponsor.
“Having a Wellington-born-and-bred business as our naming rights sponsor aligns very well with our strategic purpose of ‘providing unforgettable experiences that connect our communities’. Given how that parallels Hnry’s own goals, we see this partnership becoming incredibly successful.
“In the past 25 years, we have welcomed more than 12 million patrons through our gates. That level of support reflects the role the Stadium plays in Wellington’s cultural, sporting and community life. We work hard to consistently deliver experiences that bring people together, and we look forward to the next era working with Hnry to amplify our business even further,” he says.
Our vision for Hnry Stadium
Being naming rights sponsor of Hnry Stadium means that we will have opportunities to collaborate with the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust team to host events for our customers and the wider community. We’re currently at the drawing-board stage, but if you’ve seen our previous shenanigans, you know that we love a good time. Watch this space!
“We see the stadium being a space that our customers – and Wellingtonians – feel deeply connected to,” says Hnry Co-Founder and CEO James Fuller. “We don’t like to take ourselves too seriously as a brand, so people can expect a bit of fun when visiting Hnry Stadium.”
But it’s not just about the new stuff – we understand how important the Hnry Stadium is to both the city and the local economy. For vendors, suppliers, contractors, and contributing businesses, it’s not just a venue – it’s an economic hub. We plan to get involved however we can: supporting attendance; encouraging local spend; and championing Wellington at every turn.
We back Wellington – and New Zealand
As fun as this all is, why become naming rights sponsors of a local stadium? Isn’t Hnry a global company now?
Great question! We have launched in both Australia (2020) and the UK (2025), and we are growing and hiring in both of those countries – but honestly, home is where the heart is, and Wellington has ours.
Since launching in 2017, we’ve been involved in several city-wide art initiatives (birds and bees, anyone?), installed a rage room on the waterfront, and taken over just about every bus back and billboard out there. The Hnry Stadium is another symbol of our commitment to keep investing, hiring, and building in Wellington.
On a deeper level, we’ve been advocating for sole traders here since day one. Whether it’s through:
- our sole trader pulse (the only survey of its kind in Aotearoa!),
- our work with the Retirement Commission to push for better KiwiSaver benefits,
- our KiwiSaver giveaway,
- our in-depth look at current GST thresholds,
- or even our commitment to continue building the features our users ask us to, like the Hnry Debit Card, and our most recent launch: Scan to Pay 🎉
– we want better for sole traders, and we will keep making sure your voices are heard.
We know the past few years have been rough, and we want to spread as much joy as possible. Sponsoring the Hnry Stadium is just another way we can get behind our local community, and back the city that’s supported us from the get-go.
