Now the Work Really Starts

After last week and the rapid introduction to the Kiwibank Fintech Accelerator we now understand just how frenetic the programme is and is going to be… and to continue the theme, what better way to kick the week off than with a presentation from Finn Lawrence  (Head of Product at Mevo), on ‘How to work at 88mph’ (that’s 141kmh to us metric folk).

This week we’ve been talking to as many customers as possible. (Thank you to those Uber drivers for being willing to listen to us as we’ve been racing round the city!) Our Hnry team have been hard at work trying to understand more about our customers and how we can make Hnry better for all. As part of this we fired out a customer research survey specifically targeted at self-employed people. It’s had an amazing response and we really appreciate everyone who’s filled it out already. If you’re self-employed and you haven’t seen it, then going here should be your next port of call.

There are some interesting results in there… but the three that really stand out for us, and where Hnry can most deliver are:

  • Over 35% of people surveyed feel that tax and compliance responsibilities affect their ability to do a good job for their clients;
  • Over 45% don’t currently have confidence that their invoicing, tax and compliance is currently being done correctly; and
  • Over 50% are using manual spreadsheets to manage their self-employment.

The results all indicate that there is a real need for Hnry in this world and the lives of the self-employed and has given us even more impetus to get out there and help as many self-employed people as possible. We’re all looking forward to making this dream work together.

Week three is quickly approaching and we’re excited about continuing our customer exploration; refining how engage with the market, and getting a deeper understanding of our customers and their challenges. To reference an amazing film “Bring it on”.

Quote of the Week: “Validate quantitatively, verify qualitatively” – Jon Davies, Head of High Growth Technology at NZTE
